In 2003 the National Institute of Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) and the National Automotive Technicians Education Foundation (NATEF) started the General Service Technician (GST) Program, a career track to help fill the industry need for entry-level technicians—those with a general knowledge in all automotive systems and experience in basic service and maintenance tasks. The GST site consists of seven modules that contain theory and procedures based on the tasks developed for the GST Program by NATEF. The curriculum is designed to help schools and other organizations meet the ASE/NATEF certification standards. Along with learning objectives and theory or procedures, each lesson plan features color graphics, interactive graphics, photographs, and/or videos that further enhance opportunities for learning by clarifying concepts and demonstrating procedures.
